This announcement is for potential,
part-time, independent, contract positions with OMRI as an inspector of
input facilities and products. The responsibilities and qualifications
are similar to those required of organic inspectors by organic
certifiers.
Inspectors will
inspect operations where pending or OMRI Listed products
are made, distributed, or sold.
Qualifying applicants will be placed on a list of available inspectors
who may be contacted by OMRI staff for contract jobs in their
area. Inspectors who appear on this list are preferred, provided
their have the appropriate experience and are located within the
geographical area of the site to be inspected. However, OMRI may select
any qualifying inspector.
Qualifications
Required
qualifications include:
- Cover letter and current resume
indicating any foreign language proficiencies;
- Record of successful completion of an IOIA or equivalent inspector training
course;
- Two reports (redacted as appropriate)
from past inspections; and
- The names and contact information for
three references.
Some of our
desired qualifications include:
- Letters of referrals from past work as an
inspector;
- Experience sampling compost, fertilizer,
and other agricultural inputs;
- Work in the farm supply sector
Criteria
OMRI staff will
review inspector qualifications for:
- Personal and professional
background/experience/trainings in the type of inspection to be
conducted;
- Clear written communication skills;
- Positive references; and
- Clear lack of any conflict of interest
relating to the party to be inspected
Further, OMRI
may decide that a phone or in-person interview is necessary to
determine if the applicant qualifies to work as a contract inspector.
Responsibilities
If the
inspector is determined to be qualified, (s)he is required to agree to
and sign a contract with OMRI. Also, qualifying inspectors are required
to sign an OMRI Confidentiality
Agreement and Vested
Interest Statement.
The inspector is provided with and is expected to read the OMRI Policy
Manual, the OMRI Standards Manual, and §3.5 of the OMRI
Administrative Procedures Manual.
Compensation
Inspectors are
asked to provide their hourly rate as an independent contractor. OMRI
does not offer benefits to contractors. The contract inspector is
responsible for billing OMRI for all costs during the inspection.
