What
is an OMRI Certifier Subscription?
In
addition to OMRI Lists and newsletter, this subscription type offers
certifying subscribers a comprehensive package of services designed to
assist certifiers in their work reviewing materials used by organic
operators. The OMRI Certifier Subscription features a consulting
service for technical assistance on materials and guidance on the National Organic Program Rule
and other related regulations, paying special attention to tracking
changes made to the National
List. Staff members of the subscribing certification agent
may contact either of OMRI's two full time experts as often as desired
during the subscription period.
Certifying subscribers also receive detailed reports on the National Organic
Standards Board, regular email updates on issues of importance to
certifiers, advice and guidance on evaluating non-OMRI Listed
commercial products, priority access to OMRI staff for events and
conferences, discounts on OMRI trainings, and bulk discounts on OMRI
publications.
Who
can subscribe?
Any
organization whose primary function is to certify organic food and
fiber products may subscribe as an OMRI certifying subscriber.
Accredited agencies or those with pending accreditation by the USDA
National Organic Program (NOP) will find our consulting and publication
services invaluable. For international agencies who are not
NOP-accredited, a reduced rate service package will keep you informed
of important US developments.
How
much does it cost?
To
address the size diversity among certifying organizations, OMRI has
developed a seven-tier system. The number of NOP-certified parties
determines into which tier an organization will fit. While offering the
same services to all accredited certifiers, this system recognizes the
limited resources of smaller organizations with the lower-tier fees and
establishes a cap on the fees paid by the largest organizations. All
fees are in US dollars and payment must be made in the same.

- Certified Entity
is a producer, handler, or processor certified by a NOP-accredited
certifier for compliance with the USDA National Organic Program Rule
during the 12-month period ending prior to the beginning of the
subscription.
- Tiered fee for any
NOP-accredited certifier whether USA domestic or international.
- The number of free
copies of the OMRI Generic Materials List and OMRI
Brand Name Product List for each tier level. For the BNPL, includes
quarterly updates. Does not include shipping.
- Fee for
non-NOP-accredited certifier regardless of certified entity
number. Certifiers in this category receive 10 free copies of the
OMRI Lists.
When are payments due?
There are three payment plan options:
one-time payment, semi-annual, or quarterly payments. Semi-annual and
quarterly payments each have an additional fee of $25 per installment
beyond the first payment. All renewing subscriptions will start on July
1 of each year and must be paid in advance. For new certifying
subscribers not starting their subscription on July 1, fees will be
calculated based on the quarter in which they start.
How does OMRI count
certified entities?
For the purposes of counting the number of
entities to determine the appropriate fee tier,
OMRI considers a certified entity to include those parties that are
newly certified or are fully updated during the previous 12-month
period. Not included in the total number of certified entities
are those parties who have not completed the required paperwork and/or
inspection in the last 12 months or who have expressed a desire to not
remain certified by the agency.
What is OMRI's role
under the NOP?
Through its services and publications, OMRI
is dedicated to providing full compliance with the National Organic Program as
created by the Organic
Foods Production Act of 1990. OMRI's Brand Name Review
Program evaluates products used in organic production according to the
NOP's National
List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization, OMRI’s role is advisory and educational. Final decisions
regarding generic materials and brand name products reside with
accredited certifying agents and appropriate government agencies.
